Back to drawing…

Image

Just got back from traveling around South America (photos to come soon) and noticed that the blog is looking horribly neglected! Currently in the process of clearing and organizing the studio and stumbled across these drawings I did before I left for SA…

This last image is a oil stick drawing produced for a lithography print.

I always forget how much fun drawing is!

DJ Shadow Vinyl Cover

DJ Shadow come on riding

Designed as part of the Talenthouse Secret 7 competition taking a song and producing an album cover for it without depicting the artist or have any reference to the name.

This work is designed to capture the obscure feel of the song. The strong rolling movement of the bass and the drums creates a motion which is cut through by the vocals. I Imagined a herd of horses running under the stars… but in some sort of Hollywood slow motion like something important is happening.

When I grow up I want to be…

Finn O'Brien when I grow up... pilot

This is the first print from a series of work I am doing based on childhood notions of jobs, what is seen as a good job? Tongue in cheek look at the aspirations of the young and the crushing realization of the old that they never achieved their childhood fantasy!

More to follow in the new year!

Screen Printed Wrapping Paper

Finn O'Brien Christmas Paper

Hand printed festive wrapping paper. Gold on cream paper complete with red tags. I printed over 40meters this year to be sent out to friends family and other people of interest. Queuing up in the post office clutching all 40m divided into individually wrapped 2m sections, it was a long process!

Peckham ‘OPEN’ exhibition

Peckham open exhibition Finn O'BrienRecently I have been exhibiting in my local gallery Peckham Space as part of the ‘OPEN’ exhibition. The work needed to relate to Peckham and the surrounding area. The guys at Space are doing a great job of promoting local talent as well as trying to intergrate art into the community. Its a long process but one which if successful will have massive benefits and changes for the area. There are already a whole host of art establishments form studios to galleries in the SE15 area but it all needs more exposure and the Space gallery is really helping in this…

Emin, Gormely, O’Brien

Finn O'Brien Art Against KnivesI produced a limited edition screen print for the charity Art Against Knives in response to the real and constant danger of knife crime, particularly in urban areas.

The print was sold at auction along with a host of other works including pieces from Tracy Emin and Anthony Gormely in the old court of law rooms at the Bethnal Green Hotel.

The editions are currently being exhibited and sold in the Art Against Knives gallery in Box Park Shoreditch…

Continuing with my architectural exploration of imagery and form, this is a commissioned print (limited 10 editions) responding to the south bank buildings in London. In this work old meets new, the digital meets the physical, the contemporary culture part of the past architecture.

The multi-cultural society brought together into a confined living space which is always active and sometime volatile. It is strange to feel isolated in such a vibrant community but as a newbee I am faced with a foreign land…

Wondering around… Southbank, London

Finn O'Brien southbankI went to the Southbank a few days ago to get some photos for a current project. I forgot how crazy the architecture is down there. Every time you move you see a different combination of building elements. Its like a concrete glacier full of strange angles and compositions… here are a few
